The all-new 2022 MDX is the most distinctive, performance-focused and most technologically advanced SUV in Acura history. The next generation Acura MDX is taking its new place as the leading brand

2022 Acura MDX

The Acura MDX has been completely redesigned. It is the first vehicle to use a new platform to use light trucks, and it was not shared with the recently redesigned Acura TLX sedan. There are similarities, though, as the MDX has a double wishbone front suspension and independent multi-link rear suspension like the TLX. Acura notes that the chassis is the most powerful crossover / SUV the company has ever made. Acura has also added larger front brake rotors; It has a diameter of 1.2 inches

It's a bigger body than the previous MDX, too. They are 2.2 inches taller overall, with a longer wheelbase of 2.8 inches. It's 1.4 inches wider than the old model, and about half an inch high. The proportions have changed dramatically with a longer ratio between the instruments and the axle giving the new MDX the appearance of a rear vehicle. The hood is more horizontal, visually adding length. Sheet metal is clean and smooth with few wrinkles and decorative pieces adorning it

The interior of the 2022 Acura MDX is very similar to the TLX and RDX. Six different leather colors are available, with different options depending on the trim. Ambient lighting is also available with 27 different color combinations, and along with combinations based on driving modes, all named after race tracks and roads such as Suzuka and Route 66

Only one seating group is available and it is unique. Instead of offering a choice of second-row seats or captain's seats, the new MDX effectively offers both. It has a second-row seat where the center seat can be folded down to provide a large center console, or it can be removed completely to provide access to the two-seat third-row seat. This versatility means each MDX can accommodate seven passengers. The third-row seat also gained 2.4 inches of legroom, and the seat sits another 1.4 inches off the ground, all of which should make the road back a lot more comfortable. Not only that, but the cargo space has increased. The maximum space behind the third row increases by 2.3 cubic feet to 18.1 feet (room wide), and the space behind the first row increases from 4.1 to 95 cubic feet

The engine and power of the 2022 Acura MDX

The standard MDX gets a 3.5-liter V6, which makes it 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque like the old model. Acura's Global Development Leader indicated that the V6 was chosen over the TLX's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder because these four cylinders did not meet the company's goals for real-world fuel economy, refinement and response when placed in a three-row crossover. During the engine migration, it is now paired with a 10-speed automatic, instead of the nine-speed outboard. Front-wheel drive is standard, while New Generation All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is an option. The latest version of SH-AWD is 30% faster at sending torque to the rear wheels. Up to 70% of the engine's torque can be sent to the rear, and like previous versions of the SH-AWD, all of that torque can be sent to either the right or left rear wheel

Fuel economy figures for the front-wheel-drive MDX base are 19 mpg city, 26 highway and 22 combined. Four-wheel drive models get 19 mpg city, 25 highway and 21 combined

MDX Type S is on the way, too. You will get a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine combined with the TLX. It produces 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with SH-AWD tires as well as wider 275-series wheels on 21-inch wheels and four-piston Brembo front brake calipers. Acura hasn't provided any further details on the Type S, but we should know more when we're close to the window of the Summer 2021 release

As for the regular MDX, it will go on sale on February 2. Base price is $ 47,925. This gives you a front-wheel drive model with 12.3-inch screens for gadgets and infotainment. A 350-watt 9-speaker audio system is also standard as is Android Auto, Apple CarPlay wireless, wireless charging, Amazon Alexa integration, panoramic sunroof, and AcuraWatch range of driver assistance features. As before, AcuraWatch includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist, but has been boosted for 2021 by automatic emergency rear braking and a stop-and-go function for adaptive cruise control. All-wheel drive is a $ 2000 option on the base MDX and MDX with Technology Package, and is standard on A-Spec and Advance Package
