Nissan unveiled the updated Navara, a more robust appearance, new variant and improvements in technology and safety when it arrives in showrooms early next year.

Instantly recognizable changes are on the front end.

It raised the bonnet height and added a new interlock grille design, plus a new LED headlight design.

The rear LED mimic the front’s C-shape, while the tub was raised 20mm to better align with the lifted front end.

The tailgate as been given new hinges — allowing it to be shut with just a single finger — and a rear step has been added to make it easier to get in the tray.

There’s no official word on what the changes have done to the vehicle aerodynamics, and Nissan says it will carry over the Navara’s five-star crash rating from 2015, despite the new front

There are no changes to the 2.3-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesl engine, however the rear suspension has been reinforced to offer an improved payload of up to 1.2 tonnes depending on the variant

Also helping in the rough stuff is a new off-road monitor.

When low range is engaged, the side and front cameras are displayed on the infotainment screen, allowing drivers to spot and avoid obstacles

Inside, the new Nissan Connect infotainment system is smartphone compatible, while there are now more USB ports.

Safety has also been improved, with autonomous emergency braking, predictive forward collision warning (which monitors the two vehicles in front to avoid multi-car accidents), driver attention alert and trailer sway control all now standard.
